Expenditure, the doings of enemies, 'riḥpha', the end and the like are to be known from the 12th house; so the wise should know in every case.

Chapter 24 gives the result of the lord of every house placed in every house. These are the twelve for the 12th. The text adds that results come in proportion to the planet's strength (24.145–148), and where one planet owns two houses whose results clash on the same matter, both are cancelled (24.146).
व्ययेशे लग्नगे जातो व्ययशीलो जनो भवेत् । दुर्बलः कफरोगी च धनविद्याविवर्जितः
With the 12th lord in the lagna, the person is given to spending, weak, has phlegm diseases, and is without wealth and learning.
द्वादशेश लग्न में हो तो जातक खर्चीला, दुर्बल, कफ-रोगी और धन-विद्या से रहित होता है।
24.133व्ययेशे धनभावस्थे शुभकार्ये व्ययः सदा । धार्मिकः प्रियवादी च गुणसौख्यसमन्वितः
With the 12th lord in the 2nd, expenditure is always on auspicious acts; one is religious, sweet-spoken, and has virtues and happiness.
द्वादशेश द्वितीय में हो तो सदा शुभ कार्यों में व्यय होता है; जातक धार्मिक, प्रियवादी और गुण-सुख से युक्त होता है।
24.134व्ययेशे सहजे जातो भ्रातृसौख्यविवर्जितः । भवेदन्यजनद्वेषी स्वशरीरस्य पोषकः
With the 12th lord in the 3rd, the native is devoid of happiness from brothers, hates other people, and nourishes only his own body.
द्वादशेश तृतीय में हो तो जातक भ्रातृ-सुख से रहित, अन्य लोगों से द्वेष रखने वाला और अपने ही शरीर का पोषक होता है।
24.135व्ययेशे सुखभावस्थे मातुः सुखविवर्जितः । भूमियानगृहादीनां हानिस्तस्य दिने-दिने
With the 12th lord in the 4th, one is devoid of happiness from the mother; his loss of land, conveyances, houses and the like grows day by day.
द्वादशेश चतुर्थ में हो तो जातक माता के सुख से रहित होता है; उसकी भूमि, वाहन, गृह आदि की दिन-प्रतिदिन हानि होती है।
24.136व्ययेशे सुतभावस्थे सुतविद्याविवर्जितः । पुत्रार्थे च व्ययस्तस्य तीर्थाटनपरो नरः
With the 12th lord in the 5th, one is without sons and learning; his expenditure is for the sake of a son, and the man is intent on visiting holy places.
द्वादशेश पंचम में हो तो जातक पुत्र और विद्या से रहित होता है; पुत्र के लिए उसका व्यय होता है, और वह तीर्थाटन में तत्पर रहता है।
24.137व्ययेशे रिपुभावस्थे जातः स्वजनवैरकृत् । क्रोधी पापी च दुःखी च परजायारतो नरः
With the 12th lord in the 6th, the native makes enmity with his own people; the man is angry, sinful, unhappy …
द्वादशेश षष्ठ में हो तो जातक स्वजनों से वैर करने वाला, क्रोधी, पापी, दुःखी … होता है।
24.138व्ययेशे दारभावस्थे व्ययो दारकृतः सदा । तस्य भार्यासुखं नैव बल-विद्याविवर्जितः
With the 12th lord in the 7th, expenditure is always caused by the wife; he has no happiness from his wife, and is without strength and learning.
द्वादशेश सप्तम में हो तो सदा पत्नी के कारण व्यय होता है; उसे पत्नी-सुख नहीं मिलता, और वह बल-विद्या से रहित होता है।
24.139व्ययेशे मृत्युभावस्थे जातो लाभान्वितः सदा । प्रियवाङ् मध्यमायुश्च सम्पूर्णगुणसंयुतः
With the 12th lord in the 8th, the native always has gains, is sweet-spoken, … and has all good qualities.
द्वादशेश अष्टम में हो तो जातक सदा लाभ से युक्त, प्रियवादी, … और संपूर्ण गुणों से युक्त होता है।
24.140व्ययेशे भाग्यभावस्थे गुरुद्वेषी भवेन्नरः । मित्रैरपि भवेद्वैरं स्वार्थसाधनतत्परः
With the 12th lord in the 9th, the man hates his elders; there is enmity even with friends; he is intent on achieving his own ends.
द्वादशेश नवम में हो तो मनुष्य गुरु-द्वेषी होता है; मित्रों से भी वैर होता है; वह स्वार्थ-साधन में तत्पर रहता है।
24.141व्ययेशे राज्यभावस्थे व्ययो राजकुलाद् भवेत् । पितृतोऽपि सुखं तस्य स्वल्पमेव हि जायते
With the 12th lord in the 10th, expenditure comes through the royal house; his happiness from the father too is indeed very little.
द्वादशेश दशम में हो तो राजकुल से व्यय होता है; पिता से भी उसे अत्यल्प ही सुख मिलता है।
24.142व्ययेशे लाभभावस्थे लाभे हानिः प्रजायते । परेण रक्षितं द्रव्यं कदाचिल्लभते नरः
With the 12th lord in the 11th, there is loss in gains; the man sometimes obtains wealth kept by another.
द्वादशेश एकादश में हो तो लाभ में हानि होती है; दूसरे के द्वारा रक्षित धन मनुष्य को कभी-कभी प्राप्त होता है।
24.143व्ययेशे व्ययभावस्थे व्ययाधिक्यं हि जायते । न शरीरसुखं तस्य क्रोधी द्वेषपरो नृणाम्
With the 12th lord in the 12th, expenditure is indeed excessive; he has no bodily happiness, is angry and given to hating people.
द्वादशेश द्वादश में हो तो व्यय की अधिकता होती है; उसे शरीर-सुख नहीं मिलता; वह क्रोधी और लोगों से द्वेष करने वाला होता है।
24.144Now I tell the results of the 12th house, O twice-born. With the 12th lord joined with a benefic, or in its own sign, or exalted, —
