Transits are read from the Moon
Of all the lagnas, the Moon's lagna is the chief one in transits. So results are to be told from the present movements of the planets counted from that sign.
Phaladīpikā 26.1
The three signs, one by one
The verses give Saturn's result in each house from the Moon. For the three signs of Sade Sati they are hard — but a house is only the first step.
Saturn in the 12th: loss of wealth through useless work and through enemies …
Phaladīpikā 26.23
Saturn in the 1st: distress from disease …; in the 2nd: harm to wealth and children.
Phaladīpikā 26.22
Saturn in the 2nd: loss of wealth, happiness and health; desires fade. In the 3rd: good health, all works ending well.
Praśna Mārga 22.21
What makes it good: the aṣṭakavarga points
The transit books put the aṣṭakavarga over the house. A sign with many points makes even a hard house good; a sign with none makes any house hard.
Where there are more bindus in the aṣṭakavarga, a planet transiting there gives good results accordingly; even in the 12th, 6th or 8th it gives good.
Phaladīpikā 26.41
A planet going (in transit) to a sign that holds five or more bindus in its own (aṣṭaka)varga is always good; otherwise it gives no fruit; in a sign with no bindu, by transit, it harms.
Jātaka Pārijāta 10.9
Saturn's good houses
Counted from the natal Moon, Mars and Saturn are good in the 6th and 3rd, and all planets in the 11th.
Phaladīpikā 26.2
Mars in the 3rd, 11th and 6th is good, if not obstructed by planets in the 12th, 5th and 9th respectively. Saturn is the same; but Saturn is not obstructed by the Sun.
Phaladīpikā 26.5
When in the sign
Mars and the Sun give their result in the first third of a sign; Jupiter and Venus in the middle third; the Moon and Saturn in the last part; Mercury and Rāhu throughout the sign.

Questions
Is Sade Sati always bad?
No. The transit verses judge each house, and the aṣṭakavarga points decide over the house: with more points, says Phaladīpikā 26.41, a planet gives good even in the 12th, 6th or 8th.
Does Bṛhat Parāśara Horā Śāstra speak of Sade Sati?
The phrase is not in its 4,047 verses. Saturn's transit is read from the books of transits — Phaladīpikā ch. 26, Praśna Mārga ch. 22 and Jātaka Pārijāta ch. 10.
How long does Sade Sati last?
About seven and a half years: Saturn takes about two and a half years over each of the three signs.
Is the Sade Sati reading free?
Your kundli is free. The Gochar page — Saturn and every planet counted from your Moon, with dates and verses — is part of the full reading, a plan for that kundli; the price, with any introductory offer, is shown on this page.
