The discerning should see from the 8th house life span, battle, enemies, forts (difficulties), the wealth of the dead (inheritance), and 'gatyanuka' and the like.

Chapter 24 gives the result of the lord of every house placed in every house. These are the twelve for the 8th. The text adds that results come in proportion to the planet's strength (24.145–148), and where one planet owns two houses whose results clash on the same matter, both are cancelled (24.146).
अष्टमेशे तनौ जातस्तनुसौख्यविवर्जितः । देवानां ब्राह्मणानां च निन्दको व्रणसंयुतः
With the 8th lord in the lagna, the native is devoid of bodily happiness, reviles gods and brāhmaṇas, and has wounds.
अष्टमेश लग्न में हो तो जातक शरीर-सुख से रहित, देवताओं और ब्राह्मणों का निंदक और व्रणों से युक्त होता है।
24.85अष्टमेशे धने बाहुबलहीनः प्रजायते । धनं तस्य भवेत् स्वल्पं नष्टं वित्तं न लभ्यते
With the 8th lord in the 2nd, one is born lacking strength of arm; his wealth is very little; lost wealth is not regained.
अष्टमेश द्वितीय में हो तो जातक बाहुबल से हीन होता है; उसका धन अत्यल्प होता है; खोया हुआ धन वापस नहीं मिलता।
24.86रन्ध्रेशे सहजे भावे भ्रातृसौख्यं न जायते । सालस्यो भृत्यहीनश्च जायते बलवर्जितः
With the 8th lord in the 3rd, there is no happiness from brothers; the native is lazy, without servants, and without strength.
अष्टमेश तृतीय में हो तो भाई का सुख नहीं होता; जातक आलसी, सेवक-हीन और बल-रहित होता है।
24.87रन्ध्रेशे सुखभावस्थे मातृहीनो भवेच्छिशुः । गृहभूमिसुखैर्हीनो मित्रद्रोही न संशयः
With the 8th lord in the 4th, the child is deprived of its mother; is without the comforts of house and land; and betrays friends, no doubt.
अष्टमेश चतुर्थ में हो तो शिशु माता से हीन होता है; घर-भूमि के सुख से रहित और मित्र-द्रोही होता है, इसमें संशय नहीं।
24.88रन्ध्रेशे सुतभावस्थे जडबुद्धिः प्रजायते । स्वल्पप्रज्ञो भवेज्जातो दीर्घायुश्च धनान्वितः
With the 8th lord in the 5th, one is born dull-witted; the native has very little understanding, is long-lived, and wealthy.
अष्टमेश पंचम में हो तो जातक जड़-बुद्धि, अल्प-प्रज्ञ, दीर्घायु और धनवान होता है।
24.89रन्ध्रेशे रिपुभावस्थे शत्रुजेता भवेज्जनः । रोगयुक्तशरीरश्च बाल्ये सर्पजलाद् भयम्
With the 8th lord in the 6th, the person conquers enemies, has a diseased body, and in childhood there is danger from snakes and water.
अष्टमेश षष्ठ में हो तो जातक शत्रुओं को जीतने वाला, रोग-युक्त शरीर वाला होता है, और बचपन में सर्प व जल से भय होता है।
24.90रन्ध्रेशे दारभावस्थे … । व्यापारे च भवेद्हानिस्तस्मिन् पापयुते ध्रुवम्
With the 8th lord in the 7th, …; and when it is joined by a malefic there is surely loss in business.
अष्टमेश सप्तम में हो तो …; और वह पाप-ग्रह से युक्त हो तो व्यापार में निश्चय ही हानि होती है।
24.91रन्ध्रेशे मृत्युभावस्थे जातो दीर्घायुषा युतः । निर्बले मध्यमायुः स्याच्चौरो निन्द्योऽन्यनिन्दकः
With the 8th lord in the 8th, the native is long-lived; if it is weak, … he is a thief, blameworthy, and blames others.
अष्टमेश अष्टम में हो तो जातक दीर्घायु होता है; वह निर्बल हो तो … जातक चोर, निंदनीय और दूसरों का निंदक होता है।
24.92अष्टमेश तपःस्थाने धर्मद्रोही च नास्तिकः । दुष्टभार्यापतिश्चैव परद्रव्यापहारकः
With the 8th lord in the 9th, one betrays dharma and is an unbeliever, the husband of a wicked wife, and a stealer of others' property.
अष्टमेश नवम में हो तो जातक धर्म-द्रोही, नास्तिक, दुष्ट पत्नी का पति और पराए धन का अपहरण करने वाला होता है।
24.93रन्ध्रेशे कर्मभावस्थे पितृसौख्यविवर्जितः । पिशुनः कर्महीनश्च यदि नैव शुभेक्षिते
With the 8th lord in the 10th, one is devoid of happiness from the father, a tale-bearer, and without livelihood — if it is not aspected by a benefic.
अष्टमेश दशम में हो तो — यदि उस पर शुभ-ग्रह की दृष्टि न हो — जातक पिता के सुख से रहित, चुगलखोर और कर्महीन होता है।
24.94रन्ध्रेशे लाभभावस्थे सपापे धनवर्जितः । बाल्ये दुःखी सुखी पश्चात् दीर्घायुश्च शुभान्विते
With the 8th lord in the 11th: with a malefic, one is without wealth, unhappy in childhood and happy later; joined by a benefic, one is long-lived.
अष्टमेश एकादश में हो: पाप-ग्रह के साथ हो तो जातक धनहीन, बचपन में दुःखी और बाद में सुखी होता है; शुभ-ग्रह से युक्त हो तो दीर्घायु होता है।
